Legalization of Sex Work and its Implications on Society
×

The legalization of sex work is a controversial subject that attracts divergent views. The proponents of the sector argue that sex work provides employment opportunities to approximately 2 million people, therefore helping to reduce poverty (Sawicki et al., 2019). Although sex work has continued to thrive in the underground market, it is a sector that should not be legalized because of its connection to health and crime issues. Sex work should not be legalized because it can increase societal health risks including increase in drug abuse, public health problems, and increase in child trafficking.

Another crime related to sex work is violence against women. Female sex workers face high violence from male clients who fail to pay for the services. Sex work thrives with the sale of illegal drugs such as marijuana, heroin, and cocaine, as more sex workers use drugs to overcome the shame. Legalizing the industry can further expose women to more sexual predators, affecting families...................................
